“Free time left” indicator
Hello,
It might be interesting or helpful to have the option to toggle on/off an indication of the amount of unscheduled time we have left in the day.
I like the 5-minute increment view. As it is, you can’t see the entire day at once with this view. If someone were to ask me “hey, do you have 15 minutes to hop on a call, today?” having a quick indicator of how much free time I have left, without scrolling up and down my schedule, could be helpful. If it says “1 hour free”, I could easily answer ‘yes’ and then look through my schedule to see where it fits or what can be moved around.
Also, for people who tend to get sidetracked and procrastinate, for example going down a social media or YouTube rabbit hole suddenly, it may be helpful if one can visually see that number whenever opening their schedule, and knows “I’ve already planned my day out, and I only have 1 hour free today. Do I really want to be spending 20 minutes of it on this?”
Kind regards,
James

As someone with severe executive function difficulties, having the option of displaying a scary obvious, colorful, possibly even big and in my face reminder of how very little free time I truly have would, again, be life changing for me. If you end up making this change including the big part, we’d want to be able to flick it out of the way so we can use our schedule, of course, but, personally, I would like for it to return, even if it pops up on top of what I’m doing, because, personally, I would not be doing what I’m supposed to be doing anyhow. 😜💩
It would be just another reminder of how much I have to do.
Some of this is extreme, I know, but there are tons of people with cognitive or executive function deficits that could go from not being able to work to supporting themselves if they had access to extreme things like I’m suggesting.
Anyhow, I have no idea if it’s doable or lucrative, but a girl can dream. 🤞🤞🤞
Merry Christmas!

Oof. And overlays that have permission to pop up, uninvited, on top of one’s singing cat videos makes me worry that it would make the app easier to exploit. It would require giving the app some pretty serious permission, no?
Just some thoughts…

I've seen similar things in similar apps and I really do love this feature. It shows you “there's this much time between now and your next task (or until the end of your day)” and it is helpful to give you a quick idea of if you've got some free time to schedule in more tasks or just know how much free time you're going to have today. It is a really nice little feature to have! :)
An example of an app that has this is “Structured” (Android)

Thanks for the feedback Josh. Some questions:
What would be your main use case here? In other words:
Are you looking for a simple countdown indicator conveying “You have 4hrs 35 minutes until end of the workday at 5pm”
Or are you looking for something that takes your schedule into account, like “You have 1.5 hrs of unplanned/free time before the end of the workday at 5pm”?

@Josh please note that for now, I’ve merged your request Show "Time Remaining in the day" in Schedule into another existing entry: “Free time left” indicator.
This entry may or may not be representative of what you’re looking for—please let me know regardless.
Thank you! -Luke

Hi Luke,
I’m finding myself increasing working out how much free time I have left in my day when using the app. This could be a great feature if it could be added, with the choice of adding in your Work and Home time in the settings in a schedule/calendar for example a full week could be:
Monday
Work 09:00-17:00 Home 17:00-22:00
…
Friday
Work 09:00-13:00 Home 13:00-23:00
…
Sunday
Home 08:00-23:00
This would enable the app to calculate how much free time between tasks is available without accounting for hours asleep.
Best regards,
Josh

Thanks for sharing James, and thanks for the details of your idea! This is a big involved, but ideas like this are important for planning the future of the app. I’ll certainly keep this in mind. Thanks! -Luke

** perhaps a better use case example than a planned phone call (since one would need to look through their schedule to tell the other person when anyhow) would be something like getting a phone call from a loved one out of nowhere. If I know the specific amount of free time I have in the day, I can choose to cut the call short or let it go on accordingly.
Or I plan to have lunch with a friend for a certain time period. We’re having fun and the time I planned for it is almost up, but since I know how much free time I have elsewhere in my day, I can let it go on or stop on time, if necessary.
Or I suddenly remember a task that I need to get done as soon as possible, and I know whether I can immediately go away from my planned schedule and do that thing because I have the free time, and then go back to my schedule and move things around once I’ve finished.
